Getting there

Toledo is located about 70 km (45 miles) south of Madrid, making it easy to reach from the capital. The nearest airport is Madrid airport (Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport).

Madrid to Toledo

By Train
Trains to Toledo run frequently from Madrid’s Atocha Station, and take around 30 minutes. Trains run regularly throughout the day (with the last train usually being at 20.45). Tickets can be booked in advance on Trainline.

To get to Atocha Station from Madrid Airport, public transport is available. However, the quickest and most convenient way to get there is by Uber.

If taking the train, we’d recommend booking tickets at least a week in advance as sometimes they sell out.

By Car
If you’d prefer to hire a car, Toledo is about a one hour journey from Madrid via the A-42 motorway. Parking in the old town might be limited, but there are several public car parks just outside the historic centre with easy access by foot or taxi.

It is also possible to take a taxi from Madrid airport directly to Toledo, however, this is the more expensive option and the cost is approx. 120 EUR.

By Bus
Regular buses run from Madrid’s Plaza Elíptica Station to Toledo, and tickets can be also be booked on Trainline. Buses run later than trains – just be sure to select the express service (50 minutes) rather than the slower one with extra stops (1 hour 30 minutes).

To get to Atocha Station from Madrid Airport, public transport is available. However, again, the quickest and most convenient way to get there is by Uber.

Once you arrive, Toledo is compact and can be easily explored on foot – just be prepared for a few hills and cobblestone streets!

Things To Do

Toledo is a lovely place to explore for a weekend. We’d recommend having a wander through its historic Old Town – a maze of narrow cobbled streets filled with medieval architecture; hidden courtyards to enjoy tapas and glass of wine in the sun; and landmarks like the cathedral and Alcázar. For something more adventurous, there’s a zip line across the Tagus River next to the San Martin Bridge, or the nearby history-themed park Puy du Fou!
